FAQs

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is an ancient holistic healing system from India, over 5000 years old, that balances body, mind & spirit using natural methods like herbal infused oils, massage, diet & lifestyle practices to promote wellness & prevent imbalance.

What are the doshas, & why do they matter?

Doshas are the three fundamental energies in Ayurveda — Vata (air/ether), Pitta (fire/water), & Kapha (earth/water) — that govern your unique constitution. Treatments are customized to balance your dominant dosha(s) for optimal health & relaxation.

What should I expect during an Ayurvedic treatment or massage (Abhyanga)?

Sessions are deeply relaxing, nourishing, & often include gentle steam, warm oils, and/or targeted Bastis. Wear comfortable clothing & plan to relax afterwards.

*Some oil may remain on the skin & can stain, it is best to wear older, dark clothing just in case.

How is Abhyanga different from a regular massage?

Abhyanga uses warm herbal infused oils to nourish tissues, improve circulation, & balance energy, rather than focusing solely on muscle relief. It’s a holistic ritual using specific strokes in a rhythmic sequence to help calm the nervous system, aid lymphatic drainage & support overall well-being.

Do I need to shower after a treatment?

It’s best to let the herbal oils absorb for maximum benefit— wait at least a few hours or overnight if possible. Many clients enjoy the lingering nourishment!

*TIP: After an Abhyanga or Shirodhara treatment: when washing your hair, it’s best to lather your shampoo in hands first & then apply it to DRY hair, then lather & rinse, lastly use conditioner. This technique will get all the oil out & leave your hair shiny not greasy!

Do I need to know my dosha before booking a treatment?

No — these therapies are beneficial for everyone & can be gently adapted. We can discuss your needs before your session.
